ARTICLE 1: Science Daily Reviews Research on Ionizing Radiation and Alzheimer's
The first article is a discussion published in Science Daily discussing research findings linking exposure to ionizing radiation to Alzheimer's Syndrome (Hat Tip: Thank you John for this article):
University of Southern Denmark. "Concern that radiation may contribute to development of Alzheimer's." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 27 October 2016. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/10/161027122751.htm
More humans than ever are exposed to higher levels of ionizing radiation from medical equipment, airplanes, etc. A new study suggests that this kind of radiation may be a confounding factor in the neurodegenerative disease Alzheimer´s.
The study (discussed by Science Daily) used mouse models to examine the effects of low dose radiation on the hippocampus, finding that doses far lower than patients typically receive in a CT scan affect mouse's neurons: One researcher from the study, Stefan J. Kempf. summarizes findings:
"When you compare these figures you will find that we exposed the mice to a more than 1000 times smaller cumulative dose than what a patient gets from a single CT scan in the same time interval. And even then we could see changes in the synapses within the hippocampus that resemble Alzheimer´s pathology." (CITED in the Science Daily article above)

ARTICLE 2: Los Angeles Times discussion on sudden spike in childhood paralysis cases linked to Enterovirus D-68 (Hat Tip: Thanks Doug):
Soumya Karlamangla. October 21, 2016. Her toddler suddenly paralyzed, mother tries to solve a vexing medical mystery. The Los Angeles Times, http://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-polio-paralysis-20160823-snap-story.html
Enterovirus D-68 was incredibly rare, almost never seen after it was first discovered in 1962 in four California children who had pneumonia. Though a cousin of poliovirus, it was only supposed to cause a runny nose and cough.... Between August 2014 and January 2015, 120 children in 34 states were diagnosed with acute flaccid myelitis, according to federal health officials. The median patient age was 7.
ARTICLES 3 AND 4: This spike in incidents of paralysis described above is coinciding with a spike in autism rates in California and New Jersey:
Reese, Phillip. July 18 2016. Autism rates in California public schools jumped 7 percent in 2016. Sacramento Bee, http://www.sacbee.com/site-services/databases/article90300877.html#storylink=cpyThe increase was especially sharp among kindergartners, where autism cases grew by 17 percent last year [2015]. More than one of every 65 kindergartners in California public schools is classified as autistic.
Autism New Jersey. March 31, 2016. Prevalence Rate in New Jersey Rises to 1 in 41: National Rate Remains Unchanged at 1 in 68.https://www.autismnj.org/prevalence-ratesTAKE AWAY POINTS
March 31, 2016 --New Jersey again has the highest rates of those states evaluated: with 1 in 41 children (2.5% of children). This percentage is higher than the average percentage identified with ASD (1.5%) in all communities in the United States where CDC tracked ASD in 2012. The New Jersey rate marks an increase of 12% from the previous 1 in 45 statistic released two years ago.
Devastating neurological disorders are increasing in incidents. The rate of acceleration has been significant since 2012.
Although many factors play a role, it is my personal belief that the Fukushima fallout, when combined with other contaminants, produced tipping points in vulnerable systems, compromising immune functions, damaging endocrine systems at critical periods, and impacting neurological development and repair.
