Fallout

This post discusses fallout in Japan and the US. It primarily draws upon Arnie Gunderson's latest interview but also provides other references.

CONTAMINATION IN JAPAN

Gunderson reports that in Japan, more than 1000 disintegrations per second (becquerels) per square meter have been detected, indicating significant contamination.

Gunderson's claim is supported by other evidence. For example, Enenews reports "Yokohama radiation testing facility: Resident personally detects 1,850 disintegrations per second in a liter of soil — 250 km from Fukushima meltdowns (VIDEO)" http://enenews.com/watch-yokohama-radiation-testing-facility-resident-personally-detects-1850-disintegrations-per-second-in-a-liter-of-soil-250-km-from-fukushima-meltdowns-video

Early on a very brave scientist in Japan, Shinzo Kimura (a specialist in radiation hygiene) undertook an effort to create a comprehensive radiation map. NHK journalists accompanied him as he traveled in Fukushima prefecture and recorded his efforts. The video documentary was posted at youtube. Unfortunately, the video is no longer available at the link.

Kimura found a high of 166 million becquerels of Iodine-131 a square meter. 21.2 million becquerels of cesium per square meter were found with radiation air levels in excess of 300 microsieverts an hour.

In November, Fukushima Diary published evidence that the fallout contamination in Japan is 33 times worse than Chernobyl:
"Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology published the soil contamination data of 60 km area from Fukushima plants. The data was taken from 6/1/2011 ~ 11/22/2011.

Though it’s only about I-131, Cs-134, Cs-137 mainly, the result shows the worst contaminated area in Fukushima is 33 times worse than Chernobyl. It proves Fukushima is something nobody has ever gone through. In Chernobyl, area contaminated worse than 1,480,000 bq/m2 was defined as the worst red zone, “immediate mandatory evacuating area.”In Fukushima, Namiemachi, 22km north west to Fukushima plants is contaminated, which they measured 760,000 bq/kg (Cs-134 + Cs-137). It equals to 49,400,000 bq/m2."

RADIATION CONTAMINATION IN THE US (All Data Prior to Nov 6)

Arnie observes that research with Marco Kaltofen has found 100 becquerels (i.e., disintegrations per second) from Cesium-134 and 137 in a square meter in the Portland Oregon area. This research was conducted before November 6 when the results were discussed in an interview.

Next hottest area detected in the US was the Cascades and areas on the west side of Rockies.

In the early days of the disaster,10 hot particles a day inhaled in Seattle, 100X more in Japan.

Gunderson cites other research findings to support his claims about deposition in the US.

He cites a Univ of Texs study that found airborne radioactive aerosols 40,000 higher in April than normal (Xenon) [Elevated radioxenon detected remotely following the Fukushima nuclear accident. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21530026 ]

Gunderson noted that UC San Diego detected radioactive sodium at levels implicating much higher releases of radiation than reported by Tepco [Evidence of neutron leakage at the Fukushima nuclear plant from measurements of radioactive 35S in California http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2011/08/11/1109449108 ]

Keep in mind that inhaling noble gasses is not risk free: see "Xenon Gas and Lethal Doses by Inhalation" http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/xenon-gas-and-lethal-doses-by.html

The data Gunderson discusses in this recent interview were presented in a November 6 Interview - with Marco Kaltofen - titled "Airborne Radiation Spread" http://enenews.com/university-researcher-weve-seen-radioactive-rain-outs-in-areas-of-oregon-and-washington-areas-with-a-lot-more-radiation-video  0r http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJe7rCHXgYs

MY QUESTIONS ARE 1.) WHEN IS JAPAN GOING TO PROTECT ITS POPULATION AND 2 WHAT ARE DEPOSITION RATES IN THE US NOW?

EPA radnet data have shown a marked increase in radiation levels in many US cities since November. Many people who are monitoring levels with their personal geiger counters have detected high levels in the US and Canada as well.

Events evident on the Fukushima Webcams indicate that significant releases are occurring at the plant, especially in the vicinity of unit 3.

Speculation about the nature of observed anomalies at the plant can be found here

Recent detection of Iodine-131 supports the hypothesis that fission is still occurring and RADIATION CONTAMINATION IS WORSENING. Certainly no-one believes that cold shutdown has actually occurred...
http://fukushima-diary.com/2011/12/constant-leakage-of-iodine131/

When will our governments (Japan, U.S., Canadian) increase fallout testing and publicize results??? When will efforts be undertaken systematically to protect populaces by monitoring ALL FOOD and WATER?
